Tonight we went out for happy hour with Meagan, Jackson, Glenn, Joe, Ryan and Ting Ting to celebrate Meagan getting a new job and Jackson finding an apartment in NYC. I love getting a bunch of friends around a table, sharing stories, talking loud, interrupting eachother, laughing, and just having a good time.  The conversation starts out going on way and ends somewhere completely different.

After HH we walked to get ice cream (i mean, at 9pm it was still 85 degrees out) and it tasted sooo good. On the way back from our walk, the boys joined me for my outfit photos! Too cute, they are posing all “modely”! I love my friends.

today was the hottest it has been in L.A. in 20 years… but you already knew that.  it’s hot and everyone is complaining about it- ha! it’s true, it feels like a freakin’ oven whenever you go outside, you can never have enough water, my dogs absolutely hate it- they hide their leashes so we don’t go outside, and i started training for my 10K (which is in late november) today, so i had to run at the gym. which i hate.  i love the gym- but running at the gym takes so much longer than when you are outside… at least for me.  i feel like when i get to see different things around me that i run faster.  maybe this is so, maybe not- it’s just how i feel.

i do feel better after I work out, though.  i feel strong. i like that feeling.  i guess that’s why i signed up for another marathon type run.

my mom bought me this dress several years ago and i feel like it’s the perfect fall dress. plus it’s super swingy- so that’s always fun!

well, hello, Tucker for Target...

image

image

image

While I was in San Diego, I quickly scooped up this Tucker for Target dress that I had my eye on ever since I saw the collection online.  They didn’t have my size at the Targets near my house, so when I saw this one, I knew it was going home with me.  I fell in love with the little sleeves and cute print.  I can already imagine wearing this with tights and long sleeves underneath!!

Today was kind of crazy- After about 24 hours of not sleeping I somehow woke up after only 4 hours of sleep.  This never happens for me- if anything I always over sleep! So waking up so early, Bob and I ran some errands, went to work out, ate lunch all before I’d normally have taken a shower.  Since we had so much time,  we took the dogs for a super long walk to the park and then further to the library.  Bob just bought a Nook and wanted to see if he could download books from the library- and he can! How freaking cool is that?!

What do you guys have planned for the weekend?! Bob and I suddenly realized our weekend was jammed packed!! Hope you have a great one!

oh- and a shout out to one of my best friends, Meagan, who landed a totally cool new job and starts on Monday!! So proud and excited for her!

Hey! I just got back from 5 days hanging out on the beach with my parents, Bob and our doggies! And we had the best time ever! We didn’t actually do too much- walked on the beach, surfed, ate a lot of mexican food, watched movies and hung out! I miss my parents so much already- and hate to be back in L.A. without them.

This next week is going to be crazy busy because we are meeting friends back in San Diego next weekend!! I’m looking forward to hiking with my dogs, getting back on better eating plan (a diet of Banana Crunch French Toast and Fish Tacos is no way for a girl to fit into skinny jeans!!!), and resting… I know Erin and Glenn will want to party- so I’m going to be a good girl and get a lot of work done, sleep in and work out for the next week until we are off again!

Hope everyone had a fantastic week!

oxford kind of girl...

image

image

image

So, these are my cute little ole oxfords from urban… I never thought I’d be an oxfords kind of girl.  But just this week I’ve worn them about seven times to various events and things.  I’m kind of in love with them.  They are super easy to slip on (no laces) and add a little funk to this dress.  Which I must say- MVD! (Most Valuable Dress) award, for sure.  I wear this dress all year long, dress it up, dress it down, spill things on it, can throw it in the washer… you name it, i’ve done it in this dress. Love!

The weekend could not come soon enough! I can’t wait to drive down to San Diego and meet up with my parents.  It has been way too long!

On other news, Meagan and I went to the gym today.  I burned off about 370 calories and then went and ordered a burrito bowl at Chipotle.  It was totally worth it, too.  I had been craving Chipotle for weeks… why is there guac so delicious?!

So, this week it’s been crazy hot again during the day and then cooler at night. I loved breaking out my cute booties for fall, and can’t wait to wear them again with tights!  So soon… I can feel it!

This is the skirt I picked up at Anthropologie for, wait for it… 19 bucks! holla! It’s so cute and ladylike and yeah… I love it!

My parents are flying into San Diego this weekend for a whole week!! and Bob and I are meeting them down there.  They rented a house in Encinitas (my favorite little beachside city) and we are bringing the doggies! I can’t wait for breakfast at Beach Break Cafe in Oceanside, hanging out at the beach and maybe a little paddle boarding for good measure! P.S. Paddle boarding is hard as crap.  My arms feel like they are going to fall off after about twenty minutes!! But it’s really fun when you get the hang of it!

This weekend actually starts three weeks of travel! This week San Diego, next weekend Vegas, the next weekend back in San Diego (this time further south with Erin at the lovely Loews!!).  We’ll probably throw in a trip to Sea World or the zoo, too! Hope your weekend is just as lovely!!

Date nights are the best...

image

Sunday night, Bob and I went out for sushi, shopping and a movie.  We saw Going the Distance and it was super cute and sweet.  I was actually surprised (I forgot it was rated R) at all the vulgar jokes and scenes.  Most of them came off totally true to life and like normal people would actually say and do them- which I liked. The sushi was delicious and I even scored a very pretty skirt from Anthropologie for only 19 bucks! (seriously- that never happens!!)

As for the outfit- this is what I had wore to Ladies who Happy Hour and just added the jacket for warmth later in the night.  Bob thought I looked super sexy, which is always important on a date!!, and I felt pretty cool too! I felt like the look had a sort of 70’s hippie thing/ military inspired/ all around cool vibe going on.

I had drinks with some friends tonight and decided to sign up for a 10K with Glenn and Meagan.  Glenn and I ran a half marathon last January, and it’s totally time to sign up for another run to keep me motivated to work-out and loss the love handles! ha! I feel like a have a good hold of life right now… Vagabond3 got asked to review a book (how freaking cool is that!!), and we were put on GoOverseas.com list of best travel websites!!! We are #4 out of 15!!! Seriously… we are ahead of some really important bloggers, so just to be included is incredible! We are working so hard and slowly it is really beginning to come together.

I’ve written for a few other sites and I’m just waiting to hear back… so cross your fingers!!! Hopefully there will be more good news to come.

This month, Ladies who Brunch got pushed back a few hours to Ladies who Happy Hour! We tried a place in WeHo, The Den of Hollywood, for a lovely Sunday afternoon happy hour with half priced drinks and starters.  Literally, if you live in L.A. you should check this place out! So cheap (during H.H.) and the place is super cute! Another super successful Ladies who Brunch! I can’t wait until next months! (if you live in L.A. and want to join us in October- shoot me an email!)

it's a sad day for FSU football...

Well, Saturday was fun- the football wasn’t- but the day was great! I look pretty upset in that last photo- let’s just say it was a rough day.  I love football and I take it very seriously. (Luckily I didn’t cry.)

meetings and tacos...

image

image

image

Thursday, Bob and I went to a meeting about travel websites for a start-up and this is what I wore.  I wanted to feel artsy and fun, but still like I knew what I was talking about and could be taken seriously.  I think I achieved just that!

I picked up this little shirt dress a few weeks ago at T.J. Maxx for $8 bucks on clearance.  It’s funny because I had actually tried it on a few months ago thinking it was pretty cute and would be a good basic that could easily be layered, etc. but thought the price was too much for something so simple.  Hip Hip Horray for waiting.  Most times when I play the waiting game, it goes on sale but not in my size or never goes on sale or whatever- but this time it paid off. love it!

This weekend we have lots of fun plans… crazy amounts of football will be watched (can. not. wait.! go FSU!), parties, Ladies who Brunch on Sunday and date night! WooHoo!

I hope you have a great, fantastic, fun filled, laughing all the time weekend!

…cause I was hot in this today.  literally sweating. ugh- I’ll never trust iphone weather again!!  (I think i was just overly excited to wear fally things)

I noticed that a lot of magazines and bloggers were talking about and wearing these shirts with huge bows on them.  I lucked upon a few at the thrift store for 3 bucks to give the trend a try.  I love the colors and length of the bow on this shirt.  It wiill be equally cute tucked in a high waisted skirt and worn sans jacket.

and then it was Fall...

image

image

image

image

Labor Day was all sunshine and warm weather and today is cloudy and cold.  And just like that, it was fall.  After going to the gym (I’m going on detox during the week and then the weekend can be wings and beer- for football season), Bob and I met up with Glenn and Meagan for fish tacos.  It was chilly outside and we were all craving a big hoodie! I came home and changed into this!! Not a hoodie, but definitely made me feel cute and warm.

I wanted to buy a denim button up top all summer long but never found the perfect one.  Then today, while looking through my closet I saw this light jean jacket. Something just clicked- yes, it’s not my jcrew denim shirt, but it was pretty close! So I put it on, buttoned it up and reached for my fall-y-est skirt to pair with it.  (yes, i just made up fallyest.. it’s not a word, but should be.)

It’s supposed to be cool like this all week and then climb back up in the high 80’s by the weekend.  So, maybe it’s a fall week we are having- whatever it is, I’ll take it!

Waterfalls in Los Angeles

image

image

image

On Labor Day, we went for a hike to Eaton Canyon in Pasadena.  It was awesome! It’s about a 3.5 mile hike out and back and at the end there is a waterfall.  The waterfall is about 20 feet high or so (will have to add a photo from Bob’s phone later) and it was so cool!  Since it was a holiday, we weren’t the only people who had the idea to hike to the waterfall, but it was still pretty fun seeing everyone swimming around and enjoying the day!

A Hollywood night out...

image

image

Saturday night, we went out for a fun little night of bar hoping.  Jackson, Meagan, Bob and I got all dressed up at my house before-hand and drove down to Hollywood to try out a few new bars.  First up was Loaded.  We ordered the pizza— it was highly recommended and totally delicious.  Meagan got pretty wild (and brave!) and jumped up and pool danced! (We have video!!!) I have to say- we were totally cheering her on and I couldn’t believe that she actually did it- I don’t think I would have done it.

Afterwards, we walked a few blocks down to Dillions and it was packed! We were lucky to find a table upstairs and right next to a few German tourists, who we quickly befriended and hung out with the rest of the night!

Saturdays are better with football...

College football is one my most favorite things… you know- fashion, marine biology, theatre and college football.  I have a very wide range of interest- all the best ones!!

(glenn was so proud that he had bought an FSU shirt… but in reality he bought a redskins shirt… totally different indians! ha!)

After only two hours of sleep, I was bright eyed and ready to cheer on my seminoles! Meagan brought the war paint, Jackson bought the beers and everyone else brought the cheer.  It felt great to scream for my team, eat wings and make fun of silly, drunk people.  ahh… college football is back- and I’m feeling great!!

(Meagan, Amanda, Jackson, Bob, Zane, Glenn and Ryan all came out! What a great group!)

Sunflowers in the morning...

(Let’s try this again, shall we? Tumblr didn’t feel like posting the photos with the title earlier today… FUN!)

Yesterday, I woke up to a sweet little surprise.  My boyfriend came into our room and said there was something special in the kitchen for me.  So, I jumped out of bed, ran into the kitchen and found these beautiful sunnies waiting for me!  What a lovely surprise! Sometimes he is just perfect- ha- most of the time! (it’s just an exclamation kind of day!!!)

If you remember I’ve worn a similiar skirt before- it’s actually a tunic that I tuck the straps of under and presto!- skirt! This tunic is made the same way, so I just copied myself and there you have it.  I really like the colors of this outfit, kind of out of my usual teal, coral, pink zone.  It feels Labor Day-ish.

Do you have any plans for the long weekend?!  I’m going to watch football tomorrow- yay, college football is back! The rest of the weekend will be filled with BBQs, hikes in the mountains, mexican food and miller lite.  (I like to keep it classy here.) Hope yours is filled with good times and lots of fun!

date night...

image

image

image

Tuesday night, Bob and I went on a date.  We got all dressed up and hit the town.  And by hit the town, I mean we went to happy hour at Outback, had two miller lites on draft followed by one margarita (we shared) while we waited for our buzzer to go off for Olive Garden.  Yep- we are just that classy.  I would have been more than happy to have just eaten at Outback, but Bob was dead set on the never ending pasta bowl from Olive Garden- so that was kind of a done deal!

We had such a great night!  The two guys who seat you at Olive Garden both told me that they loved my dress… I’m thinking they were both gay- that or else they had some balls to compliment a girl right in front of her date! Whichever it may be- I was flattered and happy.  That’s why you dress up, right?!  I’m not wearing four inch platforms for nothing, folks!

outfit details: dress- Free People (gift), shoes- BCBG, wallet- Volcom (gift) Attitude- free!

“As you’re the only one you can really change, the only one who can really use all your good advice is yourself.” —

– John-Roger and Peter McWilliams

This rings so true for me right now.  I can’t force interactions, friendships or jobs into being something that they’re not.  I can focus on being a more happy, more supportive and more positive person so that my interactions, friendships and opportunities are all the more better.
